For my Rhyming Pairs Project, I decided to do the rhyming words Pug Mug and Punk Monk. When approaching the idea building stage, I started by trying adjectives and nouns that rhymed with each other (like punk monk) so I could illustrate that noun with the adjective I chose. For pug mug, the words just came to me, and I thought it would be cute to make the body of the mug the face of the pug, while using the tail as the handle. My professor was emphasizing line variation, so I tried to implement that within my illustration.
Process Images:
When creating my Pug Mug design, I started with the basic shape of the mug and put a basic cartoonish pug face on it. I liked my concept but decided after critique to push it in a more illustrative direction. After playing more with line weight and variation, I settled on my final design and was very happy with it.
When creating the Punk Monk piece, I was still learning the in's and out's of photoshop, but tried to give it the ambiance that he was at a concert with the background and lighting. I then played with the grain and saturation of the photo to make it seem a little more punk-like.
